15 Chloe Early - surfaceandsurface.com

Beautiful large scale fantastical kaleidoscopic paintings from Irish raised / London based Artist Chloe Early. I saw Chloe’s work for the first time in the Tramyard Gallery in Dalkey, Ireland back in 2006, her first solo show entitled ‘Spring Board’ and I really regret not shelling out the cash for one of her amazing paintings back then.

“Chloe Early’s current works are oil paintings on linen and aluminum. Large scale painterly montages, she works with an abstracted urban landscape background placing interchangeable motifs: divers, balloons, stars, herds of animals, always hinting at the opposing themes of apocalypse and redemption.”

Chloe Early exhibited with the Corey Helford Gallery at Scope Art Fair, Miami this year and had a solo exhibition at the Joshua Liner Gallery in New York entitled ‘Feathers and Wax’ back in November. Original works and limited edition prints are available through ‘Stolen Space Gallery‘ in London.

11 José Parlá - Surface and Surface

Calligraphic paintings and concrete sculptures from Cuban raised, Miami born, New York based Artist / historical transcriber / visual raconteur José Parlá.

“Parlá concentrates on the problems inherent in the change of context from the street to the galleries that few of the old school writers had successfully negotiated. A notable exception is, of course, SAMO, who later painted under his given name, Jean-Michel Basquiat. Parlá’s work takes off from and expands on these roots.”  Joan Waltemath, Brooklyn Rail

An interview with José Parlá and Ann Binlot from The New York Times is available here and another from The Block Magazine here.

“I’m interested in bringing the energy of the city inside the gallery,”  José Parlá
